Purpose of the Parkway Congregation - Our goal is to be a Christian family. In everything we do, we want to be like Christ - to be pleasing to God. The road is not always easy. Throughout trial, diversity, temptation and discouragement, we long to remain united. Jesus prayed, "May they be brought to complete unity to let the world know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me." Our goal is to avoid failing him.
The distinctive plea of the Church of Christ - "It is primarily a plea for religious unity based upon the Bible. In a divided religious world it is believed that the Bible is the only possible common denominator upon which most, if not all, of the God-fearing people of the land can unite. This is an appeal to go back to the Bible. It is a plea to speak where the Bible speaks and to remain silent where the Bible is silent in all matters that pertain to religion. It further emphasizes that in everything religious there must be a 'Thus saith the Lord' for all that is done. The objective is religious unity of all believers in Christ. The basis is the New Testament. The method is the restoration of New Testament Christianity."

At the Parkway church we teach...
Love - We are a family of believers who accept each other because God has accepted us.
Bible - The Bible is inspired and is the final authority in life and doctrine. The Bible reveals one true God existing as Father, Son and Holy Spirit, each possessing the attributes of deity.
Grace - Salvation is the free gift of God. The only sufficient payment for our sins is the death of Christ as our substitute. No one is saved by his own merits or good deeds.
Response - It is necessary to respond to God's free offer of salvation by faith, repentance, and baptism. As we confess Christ as our Lord and are baptized by immersion, God meets us, forgives our sins and gives us the gift of the Holy spirit that empowers each of us.
Unity - While avoiding entanglement in creeds and traditions, we make a diligent effort to follow Christ. The original followers of Christ (the first century church) provide an inspiring model of lifestyle, worship, doctrine, and organization that, in principle, is to be followed in our century.
Ministry - God gives us abilities that we are to use in service to one another and the world. We do not work and serve to be served, rather to express our gratitude for God's gift of eternal life.

NOTE! Due to construction on Bruns Lane just north of our building, directions for those coming from the west or south have recently changed.

From the west (Jacksonville) or south (St. Louis) - from Interstate 72, take exit 89 (3.0 miles west of Interstate 55); turn north on Route 4 (Veterans Parkway) and continue to Jefferson Street; turn right (east) on Jefferson. Continue east on Jefferson to Bruns Lane (the second stoplight). Turn left (north) on Bruns Lane. Continue north on Bruns lane; after the 1st stoplight (North Grand Avenue) turn right into the parking lot.

From the east (Decatur) or north (Chicago) - from Interstate 55 southbound, take exit 98B to Springfield or from Interstate 72 westbound continue into Springfield without exiting; Interstate 72 "ends" and turns into Clear Lake Avenue, then Jefferson Street (a portion is one-way); turn right at Bruns Lane (5.7- miles); after the 1st stoplight (North Grand Avenue) turn right into the parking lot.
